Murrumbidgee Farm Fair 2008 – call for exhibitors

The Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area’s premier agricultural field days – Murrumbidgee Farm Fair – is now calling for exhibitors for the event which will be staged over two big days, Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, 2008.
The Murrumbidgee Farm Fair is located on its own dedicated site at the Yanco Agricultural Institute, just 12 kilometres south east of Leeton, New South Wales, in the heart of the rich and productive Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA). The MIA – described as “Australia’s food bowl” – is recognised as one of Australia’s most diversified agricultural regions producing wine grapes, citrus, stone fruit, rice, wheat, corn and livestock.
The Murrumbidgee Farm Fair is designed to offer display, promotional and sales opportunities to all agri-businesses from farm machinery, tractors, tillage and irrigation equipment to pumps, power tools and everything in between.
This special event is under new management, now organised and promoted by Rural Press Limited, Australia’s largest rural publisher and organiser and promoter of several major fields days in Australia, New Zealand and the USA, including the largest in Australia, the giant Commonwealth Bank AgQuip at Gunnedah NSW.
General Manager of Rural Press Events Barry Harley explained that the Murrumbidgee Farm Fair, in its 20th year, has tremendous support from the area’s Councils and community, “and under our management is being returned to a serious agricultural exhibition. And despite the unfavourable seasonal conditions, the event will feature an even larger number of agricultural exhibitors.
“Our first year as management in 2007 demonstrated that if you market to rural Australia with products that the farming family wants, success can be achieved regardless of the weather,” Mr Harley said. “Comprehensive surveys with our exhibitors were extremely positive with nearly all of last year’s indicating their return and a large list of new exhibitors joining the event. It’s also pleasing that surveys with our visitors indicated great customer satisfaction as to the overall improvement of the event to previous years.
“Too many other so called field days had allowed themselves to degenerate into ‘market places’ and serious rural exhibitors were protesting with their feet,” he added. “This is now a more serious agricultural event with its focus to secure even more quality agricultural exhibitors as well as attracting greater numbers of farming families to the event.”
The Murrumbidgee Farm Fair is recognised as playing an important role in the Australian agricultural industry by offering opportunities to showcase new product and services, demonstrate machinery, highlight new technology and innovation and provide information to more than 15,000 visitors.

Murrumbidgee Farm Fair powers ahead

The Murrumbidgee Farm Fair at Leeton in southern NSW is powering ahead with the announcement that Leeton Shire Council and the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) have entered into an agreement for a further three years use of the Yanco Agricultural Institute site for the staging of the field days.

This was another positive move forward for the Murrumbidgee Farm Fair as it continued to develop into a significant state primary industry event, according to Barry Harley, speaking on behalf of the organisers.

The Yanco Agricultural Institute Murrumbidgee Farm Fair field day site is developed on 10 hectacres, 12 kilometres south east of Leeton. It boasts easy access for exhibitors and visitors with most display sites having access to power and some with access to water.

Yanco Agricultural Institute is recognised as the NSW DPI’s Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Rice and Horticulture and includes the National Vegetable Industry Centre and the Murrumbidgee Rural Studies Centre. This year will be special for the Institute as it celebrates its centenary.

”The Murrumbidgee Farm Fair was first staged in 1988 and has evolved from a relatively small exhibition on a bare paddock to an exciting rural marketing event with more than 200 exhibitors and attracting crowds in the vicinity of 15,000,” Barry said.

In 2006, a decision was made by the previous organisers to move the event but due to overwhelming support from the Riverina community and from many of the exhibitors, Leeton Shire Council decided to maintain the Fair at Yanco and secure the services of professional organisers.

This year, the Murrumbidgee Farm Fair will run over two days, Friday and Saturday, 16th and 17th May.

Murrumbidgee Farm Fair helps farmers meet today’s challenges

The Riverina region’s biggest agricultural field days – Murrumbidgee Farm Fair – is set to play an important role again next month in the lives of farmers in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA) as they continue to meet the many challenges of living and working on the land.

Despite the fact that continuing drought has been making life difficult for most of Australia, and particularly the farming community, activities like Murrumbidgee Farm Fair are vital to the continuing well-being of the rural sector.

Even when times are tough, agri-business needs to stay up to date with the latest products and services. Indeed, in difficult times, most farming enterprises work harder to make their operations more efficient and productive.

By maintaining equipment and machinery in peak working order, including upgrading and replacing as possible, and by keeping on top of modern developments in services and technology, Australian farmers in particular maintain their reputation as among the world’s best in agri-business.

This year hundreds of companies will be represented at Murrumbidgee Farm Fair 2008, confirming the MIA based field days as the most concentrated annual agricultural event in the region.

More than 10,000 visitors are expected over the two day event as exhibitors set-up extensive displays and exhibits to showcase, highlight and demonstrate a vast range of products and services including many new developments highlighting new technology and innovation and providing information to professionals on the land.

General Manager of Rural Press Events, Murrumbidgee Farm Fair organisers, Barry Harley is confident that, given the strength and diversity of exhibitors this year, visitors will be impressed and well served.

It is again the one place every year that those working in the agricultural sector can come together at the one time to choose from the biggest available selection of products and services.

Murrumbidgee Farm Fair will be staged at Yanco Agricultural Institute, Yanco, Friday and Saturday, May 16th and 17th, offering visitors a unique opportunity to view and compare a comprehensive range of products designed for effective, efficient farming and rural practices.
